Smosh is a long-running comedy channel on YouTube that has almost 27 million subscribers. Its gaming-focused offshoot, Smosh Games, has 8 million subscribers.
For the launch of Facebook Gaming in 2018, Facebook approached the Smosh Games YouTube channel with a partnership proposal to develop monthly live and edited gaming content exclusive to the platform. I oversaw this project, and with a small team of two writer-editors, I launched, produced, and moderated a weekly gaming livestream, and also scripted and directed 8 pieces of social video per month that featured the Smosh Games talent and staff. Oftentimes, I'd be on camera myself in order to keep costs down and stay on schedule.
This project breathed new life into the Smosh Games Facebook page, where video views grew from 450k to over 5 million per month. Several videos—including a few that I hosted myself—surpassed the 1 million mark. I was also able to build a loyal community around the weekly livestreams, which allowed us to partner with game publishers and brands for livestream promotion and do livestreams at events.
